Ignatieff wins

It seems Michael Ignatieff, author of the Rights Readers selection, Virtual War: Kosovo and Beyond, stood for a seat in the Canadian parliament. The Guardian has a profile and the Globe and Mail confirms he won.

    Hi Martha.
I've been getting an earful on this topic from a friend in Toronto. There has been widespread criticism of I. there for having been "parachuted" in in order to be groomed as a successor to Paul Martin (the current Liberal leader) and behaving with great insensitivity and arrogance. Also, of course, for his views in support of Bush's war, which don't go down very well in Canada. Am somewhat surprised that he won, I guess they found him a safe Liberal district ("riding" as they call it there).
